Carpe Diem

When spring is in the air
And cherry blossom smiles so sweetly
The sun is warm and so beguiling, then
Seize the day.

When shyly in her bed
You find the primrose sweetly shaded
And daffodils already faded, then
Seize the day.

Life is so fragile
And breaks like a china doll
Tears may wait for you tomorrow, so
Seize the day.

No life is free from fear
Or sad regrets for lonely sorrows
But Lovers need no second bidding to
Seize the day.

Written for Classical Bohemians.

Initially known by me as 'after Boccherini', because that was the style I was following, I wanted to have the violin and flute throwing the tuen backwards and forwards between them. I also wanted to experiment with using the insistent backing that Mozart uses, particularly in the Horn concertos. It doesn't quite work with the guitar, but it was fun trying.

I added a cello part so that a friend of ours could join us, and that led to an arrangement for a string quartet.

I've also arranged it for two flutes and a clarinet, because my grand-daughters play flute and clarinet. It's been a lot of fun.

Ask me if you want the score.
