Wally and me
Last night Wally and me went dancing
Today I couldn't move me legs at all
It took me twice as long just to get me trousers on
If I'd tried to put on socks I knew I'd fall.
And its...
Rright hand star then left hand turn then back the other way
Do diddley-dee with every knee until you hear me say
Give right hand to your partner
And clap to the other man's wife
Then do-si-do the whole damn lot and wish you had a life.
By the time we'd danced the sixth dance in succession
Our t-shirts carried twice their weight in sweat
Our faces were bright red and a lady kindly said
"The chill-out room may be your safest bet."
Chorus
There really isn't much more to my story
It's an evening I'm not anxious to repeat
If I ever walk again, if I'm not permanently lame
When the music starts to play I'll find a seat.

Unfortunately a true story.
A friend of mine persuaded me to go with him to a ceilidh. Little did we know that it was mainly attended by gym teachers of both sexes in shorts and trainers which displayed their muscular legs.
Unlike the barn dances we were used to which had pauses between dances, this ceilidh had no pauses at all - it was relentless. We flagged. And left early.
